Sludge can be dewatered in dewatering containers or in chamber filter presses. To ensure good dewaterability, the sludge to be dewatered requires pre-treatment in most cases. This process is refered to as conditioning. Various substances are used as conditioning agents, such as lime, iron salts, aluminium salts, and polymers.
